Puffer and Google Cloud launch Ethereum preconfirmations
cvj.ai reports that Puffer is developing a system to provide instant transaction confirmations on Ethereum, backed by financial collateral. Google Cloud will operate a gateway that guarantees results before settlement, aiming to make crypto payments feel as immediate as traditional apps. Puffer’s UniFi network will be the first to use this service, which was still in a testing environment as of September 23.
CEO Amir Forouzani described the service using a hypothetical exchange of 1 ETH for 2,600 USDC. The gateway would promise the execution result, including the amount received, rather than just inclusion in a block. Puffer’s transaction times are configured at 50 milliseconds, though this has not been independently established for paying customers.
To ensure reliability, a failed preconfirmation would cost the gateway 1 ETH in a penalty called slashing. However, details about who receives the penalized ETH and how compensation is calculated remain unclear.
How the market reacted
Whalio's own Binance spot order flow for ETH, measured when this story was written up on 27 September 2026. Not the outlet's figures.
ETH is trading at $2,696.33 with a 1-hour buy ratio of 37.2% and a 4-hour buy ratio of 42.9%. Both short-term ratios are below the 24-hour buy ratio of 45.7%, indicating that buying pressure is fading in the immediate term. The 1-hour volume delta is -$6,264,611, showing that sellers are currently outweighing buyers. Over the last 24 hours, the volume delta stands at -$20,065,901, confirming a net outflow of spot volume. The Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) for the 24-hour close is -$14,599,503, reflecting sustained selling dominance. This flow indicates that while there is some underlying support, the recent momentum has shifted toward net selling.
The latest daily buy ratio of 46.8% sits at the 16th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 49.5% - weaker buying than most days.
Was that an ordinary day?
The same Binance spot measurements for ETH, averaged over the days leading up to the story.
Over the preceding week, the 7-day average buy ratio was 49.2%, compared to the current 24-hour ratio of 45.7%. This represents a 3.5-point drop in buying interest relative to the weekly average. Spot volume over the last day is 0.29x the weekly average, indicating significantly lower activity than usual. The price has changed +2.4% over the last 8 days, despite a total volume delta of -$53,808,409 for that period. This suggests that while the price has risen slightly, the underlying volume dynamics have been heavily skewed toward selling over the week.
