Vitalik outlines Ethereum's shift to a cryptographic world computer

Ethereum (ETH) Editor: Eugene Serbin

Lookonchain.com reports that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has published an article titled "The Cryptographic World Computer." He argues that Ethereum is evolving beyond a traditional blockchain into a system with fundamental architectural differences. The network already possesses general-purpose computing, proof-of-stake, zero-knowledge proofs, and layer-two scaling capabilities.

Future upgrades will introduce adjustable computing architectures, multi-party block construction, and deeper zero-knowledge integration into the base layer. Buterin predicts that by 2030, core mechanisms like transaction validation and consensus will undergo significant changes. These shifts include moving toward SNARK-based validation and PeerDAS for data availability.

The Hegota upgrade is likely to be the last "traditional" hard fork before recursive STARKs and anti-quantum technologies take over. This evolution aims to create a "cryptographic world computer" integrating privacy, verifiable computing, and decentralized off-chain components.
